Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Feature-Video zur Star-Lord Rock
Eidos-Montréal has released a new video today, which reveals more about the inspirations and the talents behind the Soundtrack of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It also explains how pop- and rock masterpieces from the 1980s merge seamlessly with the gameplay and form an innovative game mechanics - the huddle.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy combines three different music styles in his soundtrack: an epic orchestra score, an all-star mixtape with licensed songs from the 80s and an original rock album that was created only for the game. In his comment, Steve Szcepkowski, Senior Audio Director at Eidos-Montréal, as he and his team have put these elements brought together to create a unique musical experience and even shaping a gameplay mechanism.
He says: Music is essential for the Guardian's series, and that should not be different in our gameplay. The soundtrack is in the DNA of the game, and we go far beyond the usual expectations. Whether we now raise the fight with the Huddle or bring Star-Lord's favorite band to life, each element has been carefully integrated to spice the story of this rock -'n'-roll gang of outsiders even more.
Steve reveals as the opulent orchestral score of the Bafta-nominated composer Richard Jacques Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy gives an epic kinogeous. Almost six hours of music, taken in the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, play the players through their heroic and often emotional journey through the galaxy. Great care was used to interweave the score with other music styles occurring in the game so that the transition from the orchestral blockbuster moment to the licensed hit in the gameplay is seamlessly.
With the selection of licensed music for Eidos Montréals Vision of Guardians, Steve explains that the fun was the most important factor. An impressive selection of Pop and Rockhits from the 80s is designed to return players to selected locations throughout the game in this time. The songs come from Iron Maiden, Kiss, New Kids on the Block, Rick Astley, Hot Chocolate and more - the entire list of license tracks will be revealed at a later date.
The unique Huddle feature goes one step further with licensed music and sets individual songs during the fighting. Players can turn Star-Lords cassette player on and play a specially selected hit from the 80s that inspires the Guardians and drives on fighting. Steve explains that some songs may surprisingly like, but just the contrast expands the combat sequences by an additional entertaining element.
And at the end, Steve still reveals how he has integrated a brand new rock band into this original world of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. When he learned that Peter Quill has named himself according to Story of the game after his favorite band Star-Lord, Steve made himself the work and created Star Lord, the band. A complete album was recorded for the game - with original songs that celebrate the broken rock -'n'-roll life of the Guardians family.
