Large MMORPG

NCSoft, the developer of MMORPG such as Lineage and Blade & Soul, are now experiencing a shitstorm in the home. The focus is on the Battle Pass and Booster in the game Blade & Soul 2. For many players felt forced to buy from the Battle Pass.

What happens at NCSoft? On August 26, the new MMORPG Blade & Soul 2 (PC, Mobile) appeared in Korea. The interest in the game was great, after all 7.4 million players had registered in advance. But shortly after the release there was evil awakening.

The plays turned out to be PAY2WIN and credited a lot of criticism:

• In the affordable part of the Battle Passes, important items that gave a playful advantage and could not be traded with other players. As a result, many players felt forced to buy.
• There were also Lootboxes with weapons that had good attributes.
• The shop also offered a number of boosters for XP and gold.

The game then experienced a shitstorm. The Google Play Store was Blade & Soul 2 in the meantime in a 0.6 star rating (now 3.1). Of place 2 in the charts, the MMORPG sank in only 24 hours in 12th place.

Also for NCSoft had the release consequences. The share of the Korean developer sank from 870,000 WON (about 633 euros) to 622,000 Won (about 450 euros). This is the weakest value since the beginning of 2020.

How reacted NCSoft? On September 1, changes for Blade & Soul 2 were made. The contents of the paid Battle Pass were made free accessible and deactivated many boosters. The players also got gifts as compensation.

In addition, the general Loot system has been revised to make the players more frequent better equipment.

Which scope has the Shitstorm? According to the Korean website Joongangdaily, Blade & Soul 2 should actually be the answer to Odin: Valhalla Rising from the competitor Cocoa Games (Via Joonangdaily.com). However, while Odin is a success and is currently pleased with great popularity, the website Blade & Soul 2 is already as a flop.

The outcry at the latest game of NCSoft could have positive consequences for the future. Because currently NCSoft works still other games, including:

• Aion 2, which is to come for PC, consoles and mobile
• Project TL that appears for PC and consoles

Project TL is likely to be the most interesting new MMORPG from the point of view of the Western Players, as it is strongly reminiscent of Lost Ark and will also appear globally. Due to the shitstorm, NCSoft will probably consider exactly how the monetization of these players will look like.
