Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Despite RPG elements a linear action

At the beginning of last month, a trailer to Lady Lightbender was published. There, the player was able to determine the course of a conversation, which represents a typical RPG element. This raised the hope for some fans to get a science-fiction-pulp role-playing game with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

No Mass Effect with Marvel characters

Now the developers realized in a conversation with RPG Site that it is a linear action adventure and not a role-playing game. Most of the decisions made affect the action only slightly. The vast majority of history does not change. The system works similarly to the Telltale Series from 2017.

Jean-François Dugas, the Senior Creative Director of the game, explains the small effects as follows: The linearity will enable all players to experience the same epic adventure. However, the players will experience certain sections differently through the decisions they meet during the journey.

Starlord, the only playable character, can be customized with both outfits and skills. Also for the computer-controlled heroes of his team you can unlock different skills. These possibilities make Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy but not a role-playing game.

Anyway, diehard fans should learn new details about the Guardians. For example, it is shown how exactly starlord has left the earth and where his nickname comes from.
