Marvel's Midnight Suns: First gameplay video shows tactics fights and character

The concept sounds directly plausible: Xcom, but with characters from the Marvel Universe. And that's exactly the tactic experts from Firaxis with Marvel's Midnight Suns. The Reveal trailer of the GamesCom left some questions open, especially what the concrete gameplay is concerned.

These will now be answered in a new video, which shows us how the title is playing:

Marvel's Midnight Suns is actually like Xcom

The first gameplay scenes clearly remember the fighting from the XCOM series, which was successfully revived by Firaxy. They are round-based, and you have several attacks to choose from. Some of them obviously get by random skill cards.

Random system: You go into the fight with a squad of three hero and receives a random selection of hero capabilities, similar to a map deck. These skills should not only provide tactical possibilities, but also can be combined with each other and with the environment.

Also important is the environment: bums enemies of edges, let bucks explode and hides you behind rubble. If there are several opponents together, you can meet them by certain attacks at the same time.

This is different: Marvel's Midnight Suns will probably not become a xcom clone, but only use the successful concept as a base. In the trailer is the speech of deep role-play elements. As this looks exactly, it is not shown, but we already know that the development of individual characters should play a greater role than in XCOM.

After all, we play here with well-known heroes and not with randomly generated soldiers. Our hero or heroine can also use the Avengers, X-Men or Runaways in addition to the battlefield close relationships, which, however, are determined by the preferences of the respective character. These meetings take place in the Abbey, the stroke of the game, in which you can also choose supermissions and unlock new skills. In the fighting, figures can then use combo moves with good chemistry.

The promised character editor is also highlighted. After you have decided between the male or female, you can select individual parts of the outfit. How much we can influence face and physique is not clear. In addition, the Hunter is so far only shown with two swords. It remains to be seen whether other weapons and styles will be available.
